I’ve got a new tattoo

June 7, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Scorpian tattoo

Its on the back of my neck… I’m a Scorpio thru and thru and I thought I’d just show it off. lol

I got this tattoo at a tattoo party that my husband’s mother’s friend held at her house.  We left for the weekend over memorial day and headed to hubbie’s parents just to go to their tattoo party.  It was alot of fun, even though we were planning on not getting any tattoos that weekend.  Hubby also got a tattoo…. well two tattoos.   His are on the back of his upper arms.

The way his arms are it makes the stars look a bit crooked but they acutally look alot better in person.

This tatoo party made me think about my first tattoo, I got it in 2000 when I moved out to Witchita, KS.  I got a horse on my leg by a guy who was just teaching himself to tattoo on a home made gun.   It was an interesting experiance … LOL  … to say the least.  I guess you could call it a tattoo party, we were drinking and I got a tattoo in some one’s home.

Oh how I miss the days where I didn’t have a care in the world… ok not that much, but what fun memories!

I wonder when the next tattoo party will be?

I had my consult appointment

September 28, 2007 · Leave a Comment

So, a while back I told you all that I had decided to go forward with looking at getting a breast reduction done.  With no real idea as to how tricare and the navy clinic would handle this, I went ahead and scheduled my appointment.  A few months ago I had made an appointment because I had some really bad back pain.  When I went to that appointment I was referred to a physical therapist and attended physical therapy for 13 sessions to help correct a pelvic tilt.  That was great it relieved a lot of pain however I still had (and have) a lot of pain.  Now, I bring that up because it was that appointment hat saved me a lot of time when I went into the clinic asking for a referral for a breast reduction.  (more…)

I had a bad labor day!

September 7, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Well first things first, right before we left on our trip to visit family my wedding ring broke.  This is the second time it has broken and this time it broke in the same place as the first time and I lost the same diamond.  L  I have yet to take it to the jeweler because I fear I might get mad while I’m there because I just paid to have it fixed.

So the start of our weekend was a bit sour for me.  We packed up the kids and dropped the dog off at the vet; he got neutered over the weekend while being boarded at the vet.  And we headed down to visit family.  During the trip we tossed around the idea to get a radar detector, since my last ticket just dropped off our insurance and we are ticket free we wanted to keep it that way.

The weekend went by and it was fun, no worries and a lot of outside time for the kids, and we did go and buy a radar detector.   We packed up to come home on Labor Day, and not even 2 hours into the trip I get pulled over for speeding.  Yes, the radar detector was on the dash, and No, it didn’t pick him up until he did a u-turn and was behind me.

I know the procedure and had my ID, insurance, and registration ready for him when he got to the window.  So when he came to the window he said why he pulled me over and with out a word from me I handed him the papers.  When he came back from writing the ticket, he was nice enough to lower the speed I was going and told me I didn’t have to appear in court.  I thought this was the end of my bad luck.

We made it made it to our exit with out anything else going wrong, except we were just about out of diesel. Never fear there is a gas station at our exit.  We filled up the truck with no problems, and went on to complete the last 5 minutes of our trip.  We stopped at the mail box to pick up what ever was delivered on Friday and Saturday and then the truck started to idle really rough.

We pulled it in to the drive way and sat there trying to figure out what was going on.  We decided to let it sit for a while and since we had to run some errands later anyways we would try to figure out the problem later.  Well we had no luck, our best guess was that the fuel filter was clogged because we ran the truck to empty, OR a fuel injector had gone bad.  No big deal, in the morning we would run it by the auto shop.

I’m ready!

August 30, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I have come to a turning point in my life.  It has nothing to do with school, or work, or my kids being out of the house (daycare and PreK J ); Its about my body and something that I’ve dealt with for years…  (Men if your reading, cover your eyes) I’m talking about a breast reduction.  oh no… did the world stop spinning for a second, I know my husband’s world does every time I even think about it.

But to be honest, I’ve been dealing with this problem since I was in middle school.  And I think that I have come to the conclusion that I just don’t want to deal with it anymore.

Everyone has heard of the sore lower back and such, but it really goes way past that for me.  When I am standing or sitting my shoulders naturally roll forward, I try to keep my back straight and shoulders back but after 5 minutes I am in a lot of pain.  The muscles between each scapula on my back are just about rock solid and the same goes for my shoulders.  In the area where my bra clasps I have the feeling of pulling and straining.  If I lay on my stomach my arms and the front of my shoulders go numb.  And day after day my pectoral muscles just below my collar bone ache.

I go back and forth between bras that dig into my shoulders to bras that dig into my rib cage, just to get a break. And I’ve seriously considered banning bras from my home because of my distaste for them. LoL OK, so that won’t really happen, but don’t think I go a day with out thinking about it.

So I’ve taken my first step, I’ve made an appointment to see my PCM on base in a week or two about my back pain. I am going to ask what needs to be done to go about getting seen and evaluated for this procedure.  I’m very excited and scared all at once.  And I’m really hoping I won’t have to fight to be approved for the procedure.

Wish me luck and I’ll keep you guys up to date on how it goes. If anyone has any similar experiences or advice please share!

Sea Legs for the Navy family

August 26, 2007 · Leave a Comment

… A handbook to Navy Life and Services. Here is another one of those free books from FamilyLine that I was talking about a few posts ago. This book is GREAT for the new Navy spouse or even for a seasoned spouse.

This book covers Pay, Benefits, and Opportunities, Deployment, Support services, Naval Acronyms and much more! The first edition of Sea Legs was written in 1966 and it was written for the spouses of active-duty; now Sea Legs contains information and tips that can also help sailors, parents, fiancées and many others.

I enjoy this book because it goes into depth about the simple things that many of us don’t think about. For example: “ID Cards One of the most important things a military family must do is sign up for a Uniformed Services identification and Privilege card (ID card). An ID card allows you access to the base, commissary, exchange, military hospitals and clinics, and almost all the general areas on naval installations. Note that your ID card has an expiration date and should be renewed a couple of days early.” It goes on to list who qualifies and steps on how to get your ID card.

Some more about me

August 23, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I think I have found something that makes me happy.  OK so it doesn’t solve my money problems, or give me something to do everyday (well at least not now), but it does make me have a sense of doing something good when I do it.

I love to provide information to people that need it or that may find it useful.  I really think this is something that makes me happy… and I know people are reading this saying ‘she needs to get a life.’ LOL.  But when I give someone a phone number, website, a name of someone that may help them or just some simple advice, I feel good.

I’ve always been like this. Maybe it came from my Dad, he was always the go to person for everyone I knew; if you had a question about anything (and I really mean anything) he had an answer.   I think I understand now why he always had the answers, because it was a sense of self satisfaction and feels good to be able to help another person out.

Houston man: I’m the kissing sailor in famous photo

McDuffie sailor in kissing photo

HOUSTON – Glenn McDuffie has claimed for years that he was the sailor kissing a nurse in Times Square in Life magazine’s iconic photograph of the day World War II ended.

If anyone just looked hard enough, he said, they would see that it was him in the shot.

Houston Police Department forensic artist Lois Gibson took up the challenge. And after what she called a detailed investigation, Gibson said she has concluded that McDuffie, 80, is the man in Alfred Eisenstaedt’s Aug. 14, 1945 image.
